here we are..
as i speak, its less than 28 hours that my exams start.. i slept at 1245 to get back on sleep-on-time schedule. but just woke up at 5:20! so thought might as well blog a little before i am engulfed by these fucking exams. i guess my next blog will be sitting at home. thats another 23 days now. been 9 months at this place.. almost. spanning 2 semesters. time really flies. and trust me. uni life is great fun. i enjoyed a hell lot in the first year. made some really good friends. there were some bad experiences, but again, overshadowed by the good ones..
now cant wait to fly off to my home sweet home, to my new doggie, to lots of home made food, to some quality time with old friends, to some trips around the country. Bombay (with my folks), Vaishno Devi (old sec school friends), Simla (NTU indian friends), and the one with my local sporean friends. they havent yet fixed a time, so i cant really decide everything. Looking forward to some really good time with them. hope they are as sporty as lok man, sok gek, mr cheng and xian hui. those ppl really shocked me with the way they adapted when they visted me last year june. never complained, never put on airs in front of my family, tried all sorts of food, clothes. I was really apprhensive first, about the language barrier, about the standard of living difference. But the way they warmed up to my family, it was unbelievable. my mom and tayi still miss them, and am sure even they miss my home's cooking.
one incident that really shook me was our night at pawan dham, where we got a free room in this temple in haridwar. the room was really bad, i mean i wudnt stay there ever, but i guess since it was free, all 6 of us agreed. trust me, it was torture, if not for them, i wud have created havoc, even though its a temple. first of all, there was just one fan in the room, and 6 beds in a row. kinda humid, so it really became hot! me and sumit were really tired so we slept, only to wake up some 2 hours later to find them totally uncomfortable. we decided to give the front beds to them and go out somewhere and sleep. they decided to come along. so we went to the roof, which was quite cool. and the view of mountains near by was quite nice. there were mosquitoes, but we had our repellants. we went down and got the bed spreads and pillows to sleep under the sky. only when it started raining, and we found a shed on that big roof. BUT the mosquitoes got really troublesome in there. and a guard came in to tell us it isnt allowed to stay up here, so we went all the way down, to spread our sheets on the floor under the fan and sleep. i was really feeling bad for my guests, if i wud have known this is gonna be the way it was happening, i wud have never bought them there, how much did me and sumit repent our decision to stay there. anyways, suddenly, we see frogs!! all around us, i mean could things get worse! we left that place to go back to the roof again after convincing the guard we had no option! (it is not allowed to leave the place till morning!)but mosquitoes again! sok gek, xian hui and mr.cheng finally decided room is the best option, while me, sumit and lok man just cudnt get inside the stuffy room. so we decided to explore the place, with flashlight, we were going around the whole temple, which was really dark and spooky. after a while, when it was something like 3:45 we really felt claustrophobic, and wanted to get out, we managed to get hold of the gateman near the door and asked him to let us go out for a walk, to which he said a strict no. we cried, wept, cribbed. He told us if we are let go now, we can only return at 5+ when it opens. we were desperate so we went out.
it was peaceful, calm, serene. the driver was sleeping in the car. three of us went for a long walk, uptil the banks of the river Ganges, where since it was really really early morning, some ppl had started coming for a dip. i loved the atmosphere. i mean compared to the hell inside, anything can osso! we went back, woke up the driver, and asked him to take us for a drive, and off we went, roads were free and we were cruising at high speed on the highway, half of me was out of the window, to feel the wind on my face.. oh the feeling was awesome! we came back, tried sleeping in the big car, and the moment the door opened, went up, woke those 3, packed our bags, and LEFT! RAN AWAY! to rishikesh, for a wonderful day rafting, eating luncheon meat kurkure, lays masala flavour with maggi mi hidden in our rooms( rishikesh is a holy place where no meat is allowed), had vegetarian italian food later, staying in a really good hotel, going around the small streets of this town on the banks of river ganges (just when it comes down the mountains), was really an experience, shopping random stuff, finding a lot of ang mohs there who were either in search of moksha, or yoga or else some nice time getting high on drugs =P
phew, all of them said Pawan Dham was their most memorable part of the stay, i mean why wudnt it be. there were so many memories, but yeah, they took it extremely sportingly. i wudnt have, trust me, if i wasnt the host. they took it as a once a lifetime experience, something they had never thought they cud survive through, before. (to those coming this year, i wud ensure nothing like this happens ever again, so stop having second thoughts! haha)
i asked loky if i cud make these ppl speak to her online, she can give a brief talk about the DOS and DONTS, but according to her, it wud be better if we tell them nothing and let them explore and experience on their own. though she promised a small list for me, about what shud i make them do, that they really enjoyed. if she writes pawan dham, i guess i'll just book a hotel room for me, and push these ppl in thru that door! muhahaha..
