we. the people.

Yeah, as the title sounds, just watched swades.. the last of the three movies i was eagerly waiting for in the hols, and after veer zaara and hulchul disappointed so much, i kinda expected this one will be crappy too.. then came the crappiest reviews ever, both online as well as by word of mouth, about them saying how this was a 3 hour long documentary, tackling/showing how to tackle the problems that the rural India faces today.. they tried their best to be realistic, though they had be to be unbelieveably fictitious at times.. the villagers were too too peaceful.. hehe..

Ashutosh gowarikar proved once again he is a master filmmaker, I loved Lagaan, i liked swades.. the only thing common to both were 2 actors and the rural setting, so he did prove his versatilty and handing of the script.. swades isnt a movie i wud wanna watch again and again, it has very low entertainment value for sure (the reason why it wont work at the box office i guess), no item numbers, no mushy scenes, elaborate sets, scores of back up dancers.. it does have an amazing cast of real looking ppl for once, except for SRK and Gayatri Joshi, who but then were city dwellers.. anyways, the village though fictitious, looked extremely real, the kids, the women, everything seemed authentic.. even the nanny of SRK, kaveriamma was brilliant.. i must say though, the elders of the village including the panchayat members, were too soft on SRK, the way he went against their decisions, they shud have had him bashed.. but then, they needed this to get the story going and send the message.. again, the problems they showed, be it education, electricity, water, caste system were real, and something thats needed to be tackled at the roots..

Shah Rukh Khan, is in a never seen before role of Mohan Bhargav, who strangely working at NASA,staying in States for 12 years, picked up no accent and used such shudh (pure) hindi, witb words which even after 3 years of staying in sinagpore among mainly hindi speaking friends, i dun remember AT ALL.. kinda weird. NASA sequences were real looking, after all the movie was shot at NASA! but shah rukh for once wasnt mushy, and kudos to the director for not letting the romance come in between the basic story. the movie was all SRK's for sure, he managed it pretty well.. amazing performance, i guess among his top 3 till date. he did take a risk, and even though this film wont work at box office, i am sure SRK wont regret doing this..

Gayatri joshi was pretty good for her first film, that too opposite SRK.. she didnt have much to do i guess anyway, but she did look perfect for the role.. such beautiful eyes..
The Music was sure a USP, and AR Rahman rocks! the song ek tara was shot beautifully, exacept for one romantic songs, others did fit perfectly..

I just might watch it again, JUST, as a lot of the one i watched was cut.. i must say, the movie though not great, did touch me in some way.. it was well made, and the effort the team made in making such a movie-with-a-message, i really appreciate it..

by the way, hope u ppl had a nice christmas.. i did have fun, went clark quay for this awesome (but expensive) indian dinner.. butter naan, Chicken makhani, kadai paneer.. mmmmmmmmm.... i shud end this now, feeling realy good..
