of smiles and tears

My most memorable moments in a day are usually smiles on the faces of strangers. Sometimes when I help a stranger in someway, the moment that person smiles back in gratitude or appreciation, I feel this wave of happiness that suddenly encompasses me.. leaves me feeling happy almost the whole day! the feeling is soo much worth the small effort done to help/assist someone.

Recently, while walking down to home from the bus stop, I helped an old lady get out of a cab, she was a bit too big and weak at the same time to do it herself. A very small gesture indeed. All I had to do was hold out my hand for her to grab. As she was busy trying to accumulate all energy in her to get out, she suddenly saw that hand. and she looked up with an expression which i just cannot put to words. a gentle smile. it just conveyed all the gratitude she wanted to express, in one moment. I helped her out and closed the door behind her. Thats all I had to do. and I found myself smiling all day, with an imprint of that one gentle smile in my mind. A very random thought struck me, given her condition, she must had been gathering energy all through the taxi ride, may be telling herself that she could muster it up and get out. and right when she was doing it, she sees a helping hand, that too by a stranger. The grabbing of her hand somehow transferred that feeling to me! this might seem trivial to some, but somehow to me, making someone happy for a moment, became a life time memory for me.

ever felt yourself blushing when u notice a really good looking girl/guy and if she/he sees u noticing her/him, and gives back a smile? I dun really know how to describe that smile. But it just makes u go red in a way, blood gushing through your ears, sometimes a shiver down your spine.. sometimes when u pass by a girl on the street, and your eyes meet.. this time its not the lips that spread themselves to smile, its the eyes.. the most beautiful and memorable smile for me is always the one where if the lips are conveying they are smiling, but the eyes are screaming that they are too! they twinkle, they shine, they shrink.. and you just know.. the way that stare continues until u pass by each other.. at times stolen glances, while others its a stare u just cannot break! and how, when finally you cant see the face anymore, u break into a smile.. for me sometimes, not smiling the whole time while staring builds up this pressure inside, and I end up giving this funny giggle in the end. memorable nevertheless.

enough of strangers.. what about our loved ones? nothing gives us more happiness when we see our people smile. but most of these times we do things, knowing it will bring a smile on their faces, unlike the case of strangers, where a small gesture or eye contact can bring upon a smile on their faces, unexpectedly!!

The smile of my mom, when she sees me at the airport after months of missing my absence.. nothing makes me feel more loved than that one simple non physical gesture. Nothing.

The smile that automatically spreads on our faces when we see our friends after months of separation, the moment right before the hug, right before u notice the appearance changes that person has been through, there is a split second time when your eyes meet and a smile appears on your face by itself!

The smile that comes when u suddenly hear a song on the radio/music player, that has memories attached to it.. that reminds of this special someone, that reminds you a special ocassion.. I wait for such moments in life..

so now you know what to do to make my day.. SMILE whenever u see me! and make it a genuine smile, when your eyes convey the smile, the lips just play along.. and of course, a hug just makes ME smile even more!!

spread smiles, laughter and make others happy. you'll see how happy you feel from the inside, the glow on your face will not be unnoticable. That is how I function!

U must be wondering, I titled this 'of smiles and tears'. so where are the tears? thats my whole point. tears are just mentioned. they shud never be seen! nothing hurts me more than to see my people in tears. except when they are tears of joy and love! or of course, being a reactive audience like me, you cry in a sad movie! not otherwise!

would just like to finish with something about tears..

No point in crying,
coz the ones you're crying for
never deserve your tears.
and the ones who deserve them,
will never let you cry..

A great blog about a great thing! 2 thumbs up for you defintely got me smiling at the screen for a good while hehe. You know what other smile is also amazing? whenever you are angry or tired or sad or just having a bad day? the smile that sneaks into your face when someone tells you a stupid and kind joke just to make you smile a little. Everything seems so much better! the world somehow makes a little more sense n you can actually handle it. And then those smiles you mentioned that keep some sort of complicity (that good looking guy, or the girl on the bus).. I LOVE THOSE! cuz they still make you smile after hours, even when you are already in bed and suddenly remember that smile you "secretly" shared! Rohan, keep smiling man cuz your smile is definitely contagious!!! :)

what i really liked about rohans' post was the way he used so many words to describe those very trivial incidents that most of us leave unnoticed..reading the whole thing ive realised that they are not small things at all..i have helped an old man board a bus or climb a flight of stairs..but never gave a thought to how he must have felt..never thought about what that little thank you was from the very depths of his heart and he meant it profusely..i never interpreted what that smile on his face must have meant..
When he offered a helping hand to teh old lady..i would consider it just a pleasant courtesy towards her by anyone..but now i see the other very important side of this which is how two people got affected by a very simple gesture..
the point is how a smile can make a big big BIG difference...it has large potential...it can end heated arguments or an altercation..jes a smile is what it needs...before u know it...the other person will smile back....and tooosh!!..so i learned something out of this...a simple smile or a loving gesture is more than enuff to get ur day goin..might sound small to u...but not anymore to me!!...thayank yow!

it's a rare event but sometimes, very rarely, you get the opportunity to meet a scribe in his element, a person experiencing the raw emotions of life and who has the blinding clarity to have the good sense to translate it to paper. i envy mann his ability to feel.....to transpolating back to the ignominy the lady might have felt during in the cab ride whilst envisioning her descent....to feel the awkwardness when you recognize you're out of your league....this post forces us to face the insulation our lives have sunk into...where you feel the need to CRASH into someone just to feel a mild tremor....do not mistake this post as a triumph of mere altruism....it is a celebration of the sheer selfishness that is necessary to drive altruism.....

i ve said this quite a few times before.. but i just have to say this again.. this post is beautifully written.. just as i wait for a million things in this materialistic world to seek happiness you make me want to stop and look around and realise that i must not miss out on all the things that i have to enjoy at this moment..

hey i loved what you said about how strangers bring a smile on our faces...it is soooo true...we always have our moments with people we love but the feeling one gets when a stranger smiles is so different! even better than the smiles we receive from our loved ones...and my favourite part was when we blush and that naughty smile that comes on our face...a simple smile that can be a beginning to maybe a lifetime together...lol!!
tears...hmm i feel sometimes you should just take out all the pain from your heart by crying...though the people we cry surely don't deserve it but for our own well being we should push out all the anger and trust me it really helps! its an expression of anger and is very effective! so sometimes we should cry...

sensistivity and a sense of freedom- that whats happiness bounds and that exactly wht one feels after reading this blog- u've spelt out wht everyone thinks or rather knows but everyone runs away from reason- which is completely not understandable- because there are no reasons or sort of feeling of inadequacies that one should experience spreading a smile- on a bigger picture as well- more tears are being spread in third world countries via the first world ones with their supposedly liberating but in reality fascist regimes- and ppl fail to realize that a small thing - a smile- will help ppl see the bigger pic and in truth spread happiness all over

While going through your article, all i could see were a million flashbacks. You gave words not only to your memories and feelings but to that of those who read this.

I tend to remember the bad things more than the good ones. But reading this has perpetuated the best feelings I've ever had.
